What can I do differently?
I can be more appreciative of the precious moments, and be more present to the beauty around me, my family, my children, my grandchildren, my friends, my communities.
I can let go of the need to have an opinion on everything. “Stories build bridges. Opinions build walls.”
I can listen better. Listening is a highly under-rated communication skill! I think we all know that. I can vastly improve my relationships with the people around me by listening more. It takes commitment and daily practice to develop this skill.
My body, mind and spirit feel a lot healthier when I let the opinions go. I think it’s important to remember that I really don’t know what people are struggling with. I don’t know their story unless I ask the right questions. Is part of your identity wrapped up in what others do or what you think others should do? In my relationships – work, home, family and friends, things get much better when I listen and let others speak their peace.
