Good things happen everyday in our community!
I’ve been tracking community events for 3+ years and never cease to be amazed by the number of events initiated by grass roots non-profit organizations in our city. Everything from breakfasts, lunches and dinners to celebrations, walks, talks and dances. Fundraising to support our hospital, the hospice, the YMCA, NADY, One Kid’s Place, Veterans, Teens, our Military families and so many other wonderful causes. Our city bands together under one umbrella to support each other in our quest to make our community stronger, and healthier, through generosity, caring, and compassion for those less fortunate.
For example, every year people gather to walk for a cause that supports the homeless of our community. The ‘Coldest Night of the Year’ event happens every February all over Canada. Teams are formed by people all over the city from all walks of life. Pledges of support are collected and we walk together in the cold of the evening, for as far as 2, 5, or 10 Kilometres. The commitment, energy and support of the teams is remarkable when you walk into the building to register. Music is playing, people are dancing, laughing, and there is just a plain old- fashioned community feeling everywhere!
