Bad Habits

Home/Inspiration/Bad Habits

Whether you bite your nails, like I do or press snooze seven times before getting up, also like I do. We all have them. Sometimes you don’t even know it’s a bad habit because you are just so used to doing it. But, eventually they can get in the way of your productivity.

Being unorganized, procrastinating, unable to learn and grow, letting negativity rule your day, living in the past, not learning from a past mistake, or taking things too personally are all habits some event planners run into. They are common and hard to break. But there are ways!

Acceptance:

Just own it. You have a bad habit and you need to realize that you won’t grow unless you change. There is nothing wrong with that, but accepting it is the first way to change. You have to decide what you want to change and how you are going to do it.

Slow and steady:

No one is expecting you to change over night, so don’t panic. You’ve had your whole life to build up your bad habits so they are going to take some time to get rid of. Make small changes at first, change the way you get ready in the morning or do something different when you get the urge to revert to the habit.

Punish and reward:

If you want to beat that habit you have to either punish yourself when you catch yourself or give a reward when you no longer think of it. Putting a dollar in a jar is one way to punish your habit and spending that money when you find yourself over it is a way to reward your new behavior.

It will definitely take will power to kick those bad habits. So take it one day at a time and make sure you don’t give up.
